Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
Director Coralie Fargeat's daring satire addresses the demanding standards for female beauty and the perceived horrors of growing older. The veteran actress offers a brilliant portrayal playing Elisabeth, a mature celebrity reduced to hosting an aerobics show on the small screen. This generates a youthful duplicate named Sue, culminating in an increasingly toxic connection between the two. This Friday, Paramount+

Yet once an unknown lady falls into the sea one night and the entire crew insists she wasn't real, Laura's investigative instincts take over. Out now, on Netflix
Presence
Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries through this nifty paranormal narrative filmed completely through the eyes of the phantom. After a clan including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the filming device – as the unseen entity – follows them around. The daughter appears sensing the ghostly being, and it looks like protective of her. Yet what is the reason? It's a fun idea that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise you might not see coming. Saturday 11 October, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Cage wholeheartedly adopts his unique fame through this self-referential adventure. He plays a self-obsessed film star playing himself who accepts a lucrative offer to visit a celebration in Mallorca for the wealthy superfan Javi. Recruited by government spies to spy on the alleged criminal, his unique performing skills is put to the test. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, on Channel 4
The Black Phone
The director's contained scarefest remains effective without requiring a continuation. Set in 1970s Colorado, a series of disappearances has rendered the youth anxious. When Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and locked up in a basement, he dreads a fatal end. However, the disconnected phone on the wall keeps ringing, with ghostly voices giving advice, as the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. An effective horror. October 11th, nighttime, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between spirituality and money, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's delightfully tacky biopic regarding the shamed TV preacher and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield plays the venal Jim, who proclaims at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals begin capitalizing on the people's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, however Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the character as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
The Spy Mystery
This period's additional entry by the same director delivers a spy mystery as tight like the turtlenecks worn by Michael Fassbender's UK spy. He is tasked to identify a double agent within their ranks out of five possibilities – including is his own wife. Both actors are masters of deadpan cool, resulting in an engaging mental battle of fact versus fiction develops. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the intelligent intelligence fun. October 17th, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema
